Shaykh Muhammad Ali al-Sabuni

Exegete and jurist (1930–2021)

Shaykh Muhammad Ali al-Sabuni was born in Aleppo in 1930 into a family of scholars. He graduated from the Faculty of Shari'a at al-Azhar and taught for some three decades at Umm al-Qura University in Mecca. He became known for making the Quranic sciences accessible to students and general readers alike; his Safwat al-Tafasir is among the most widely read works of exegesis in the Muslim world. He passed away in Yalova, Turkey, in 2021. Dar al-Seraj is honoured to publish a substantial portion of his works in carefully verified and finely produced editions.
