Dar al-Seraj

Dar al-Seraj publishes the Islamic scholarly heritage in verified editions with fine printing, from Istanbul.

Dar al-Seraj is among the world's foremost publishing houses devoted to bringing out the Islamic spiritual and intellectual heritage we have inherited, from the age of the Prophet to the present day. Founded on the principle of serving knowledge and scholars, the house has aimed since its inception to place sound, critically edited scholarship before the widest possible readership, with dedication and sincerity.

Dar al-Seraj works to publish our most precious inheritance — the scholarly books that embody the spirit of the Muslim community — with complete fidelity and care, holding that their publication is part of its duty in serving Islam and its lofty teachings. It therefore commits to the highest scholarly standards: texts are verified with great attention and precision, and every printed book is held to a rigorous scholarly content, high print quality and distinguished design.

The house publishes in both Arabic and Turkish, across every field: jurisprudence and its principles, theology, logic, Sufism, grammar and morphology, and the other valuable works the Muslim community has long cherished — especially those still read in our religious schools. To widen their benefit it applies the most current methods of scholarly verification and attends to the finest detail, from texts never before published to the re-editing of older texts that call for fresh scholarly apparatus. It surveys libraries worldwide in search of the rarest manuscript copies, which lends its editions a scholarly value all their own.

Alongside this, Dar al-Seraj has taken particular care to print the legacy of the late 'allama Shaykh Muhammad Ali al-Sabuni, may Allah have mercy on him, presenting it to the reader in a form worthy of it and distributing it within Turkey and beyond, so that the sons of the Muslim community may reach these valuable editions with the least difficulty.

The house's contribution does not stop at publishing. It also organises scholarly and training activities: open courses in critical text editing, academic writing workshops, and hadith reading circles — all of which help form researchers and those devoted to the Islamic sciences.

Through its network of branches in Istanbul, Ankara and Kayseri, Dar al-Seraj serves readers within Turkey, while its shipping reaches every part of the world under the motto "trust and speed".

The house takes part in the international Arabic book fairs held each year in Turkey and in countries around the world, and distributes its editions in cooperation with international publishers, so that its books travel from the Hijaz to Morocco and from Central Asia to Europe — a cultural bridge between the peoples of the earth.

The team of Dar al-Seraj works by the principle that "whoever serves people has served the religion of God". Its mission is not publishing alone, but the service and spread of knowledge that lights the way for students, researchers and thinkers throughout the Muslim world.
